What is Alternative Wedding Stationery?

Alternative weddings focus on a couple's interests, hobbies and personalities. Following tradition can be lovely, but if it's not what you want, don't do it! Alternative stationery can be as avant-garde or as subtle as you like, what makes it special is the personal nature of the design.

Whether you're die hard Harry Potter fans, avid animal lovers, horror enthusiasts, sports fans, want to include in-jokes, a silhouette of your pet or your family tartan - your wish is my command! Let Glass Bulldog package your wedding stationery ideas into an invitation that you can't wait to share with your guests.

Why choose Glass Bulldog Wedding Stationery?

When I was engaged, I was bombarded with social media trends, advice and wedding content. Even as a wedding professional it was a lot to process. If you're spending your evenings scrolling through stationery on Instagram and Pinterest, feeling overwhelmed by choice, I can help cut through the noise.

Choosing wedding suppliers can be daunting, investing in your big day involves big decisions. Booking with Glass Bulldog gives you access to 15 years of professional design and print experience, it unlocks unlimited design options, all the best design programmes and peace of mind that you're in the hands of a trusted business. Don't take my word for it! Glass Bulldog Wedding Stationery is consistently rated 5 stars on Google and Facebook.

The examples below showcase a handful of quirky wedding stationery projects.

Example 1: Enchanted forest themed Wedding Invitation

This bespoke gatefold wedding invitation was designed for an enchanted forest themed wedding. I was commissioned to create a magical wonderland, entered through a big wooden door surrounded by foliage and flowers.

The bride had a vision that certain elements, such as butterflies and stars, would jump off the page as if they were glowing. The couple included special touches like the symbol of 'Om' which is visible at the top of the door and a Marvel shield (which the bride requested I add subtly). Can you spot it?

Example 2: Spooky Stag themed Wedding Stationery

After a weekend of watching Hocus Pocus and American Horror story I felt inspired to add a spooky design to my customisable wedding stationery collection. The focal point is a stag skull with celestial and botanical detailing alongside a medieval font, akin to a spell book cover. Although black is the obvious colour choice for an alternative wedding, it can be changed to suit any colour scheme.

I chose song titles for the table names. Popular ideas for table names include include favourite bands, movies, tv shows, stars and places.

Example 3: Las Vegas themed Wedding Invitation

Cheryl and Ross got in touch with a wonderful idea for their wedding invitations. As Strangers, they visited California at the same time. They met at the Ghost bar in Vegas and got chatting after Cheryl struck up a conversation about Ross' kilt. There followed a series of serendipitous events - they were both staying at the Flamingo hotel, they both had the same photo of a couple getting married on Golden Gate Bridge (taken from the same spot) two weeks prior. Fate took hold and upon returning home, they started dating. A few years later Cheryl moved from England to Scotland, where Ross later proposed.

Cheryl and Ross wanted their bespoke invitations to honour the story of how they met and their eventual union in Scotland. Their design included gold ghosts (Ghost bar), flamingos (Flamingo hotel) playing cards, poker chips and the tartan from Ross' kilt. The invitations used hot foil, pressed into thick textured card. The end result was a beautifully tactile invitation that's still one of my favourites years down the line.

Cheryl and Ross are a great example of a couple who followed their hearts to design something out of the ordinary. A true one-off keepsake with buckets of shiny gold foil. Viva Las Vegas!

Example 4: Animal themed Wedding Stationery

This stationery set is my own :) My husband and I chose animals we have seen together as our wedding theme. One of our favourite things to do is visit new countries to see native wildlife. Our colour scheme was different shades of pink and green.

Each animal was hand-drawn before being digitalised. One of the items I created was a 'first dance' sign. They're not a thing but we had a stand for the table plan and it seemed a shame to dismantle it after the meal. Our first dance was the Friends theme tune - enter animal/Friends pun - owl bee there for you.

In summary, much like your entire day, your wedding stationery can be whatever you want it to be! View more bespoke designs.
